Of the Mind 6 - 31 August 2025
An exhibition at the One Paved Court gallery exploring the complexities of our minds through storytelling, imagery and mixed media.
The exhibition features a selection of work made over the last four years, focusing on Violet preoccupation with the mind and how memories and circumstance influence who we are. The work often reflects the impact of our uncertain and demanding world, and how we store memories that comfort or resurface at unexpected times. The immensity of memories are realised in obsessive drawings and facial expressions, of heads made of clay seemingly summoned from ancient times to comment on what we have become. This narrative runs through the exhibition with exhibits reflecting emotion, corruption, uncertainty.
“Words become important in describing memories’ the forgotten – fused – stitched into place – fixed – false – real – black – white – you – me – them. The translucent stitched hangings touch on the thing in the shadows, the uncomfortable passing memory that can be ignored until it touches you again, and the happy memories we cling to. Our memories become something else, they become ourselves”
